Is there any way I can put Mojave on this Mac? I have time machine backups of everything if that would help. Catalina won't install Mojave to the extra volume and still won't boot into my Mojave bootable installer. I restored Catalina to one volume using Time Machine backup. BREAK MY HEART! Is this really true? Are there no workarounds? I also have tried setting up an extra volume with intentions of doing a dual boot Mojave/Catalina. I have seen just a few statements on the web that it is impossible to Downgrade from your original OS. I tried the No Security setting and almost immediately get a black screen with a white "no" sign. I do have the T2 security chip and have enabled 'boot from external drive' so I don't think that is the issue. The software I am using does not support Monterey so I have attempted to downgrade to Catalina by following this article. My Startup security utility settings are Medium Security and Allow booting from external media is selected. I just received a new Mac mini (Intel CPU) with Monterey installed. I have used this bootable installer before so I don't think that is the problem. It keeps going to internet restore no mater what I do. After numerous tries I cannot get it to boot to my bootable installer. After backing up I formatted my hard drive (APFS encrypted). I have a number of older 32 bit programs that I cannot part with (newer is not necessarily better). Is there ANY way possible to Downgrade from my original OS (Catalina)? I just got a brand new MacBook Air running Catalina (16 gb ram, 256 hard drive) thinking that I could backup, format and install Mojave. I did boot to one of my other disks which is running macOS Big Sur, but trying to run 'Install macOS Catalina' says 'This copy of the macOS Catalina installer application is too old to be opened on this version of macOS.' ", and this is where I managed to download Catalina. you might be able to upgrade to an earlier macOS, such as macOS Big Sur, Catalina. I tried going to How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support 'How to get old versions of macOS' where the first paragraph says ". Trying to run the 'Install macOS Catalina' from the App folder fails as well. I have tried Cmd-Shift-Option-R but the second option isn't 'Reinstall macOS' which might get back to the original OS that was there in 2014, its always 'Reinstall macOS Monterey'. When I press Option during restart, the bootable installer never appears as an option, just 3 of the other disks attached. I have created a bootable installer from it to a USB disk. I have downloaded macOS Catalina and have 'Instal macOS Catalina' in the app folder. There is another partition which has been erased and is ready for Catalina. I have another SSD attached which is APFS formatted and has a number of partitions, one with Monterey on it and one with Big Sur. It is currently booting from an external SSD into Monterey because the internal HDD is so abysmally slow. Once you see the macOS Utilities screen, select Reinstall macOS and then click. I need to run Catalina on my Late 2014 Mac Mini, which originally came with a much older macOS. Restart your Mac, while holding down the Shift+Option+Command+R keys.
